The flag of North Korea was adopted on September 8th 1948.

The flag consists of three stripes - blue, red, blue - seperated from each other by two narrow white lines. On the flag lies a white disk which inside it has a red five pointed star.

The blue stripes represent sovereignty, peace and friendship. The red represents communism and revolutionary patriotism. The white stands for purity and the culture of the Korean people. The red star symbolizes the communist philosophy of the country. The white circle is linked to the yin-yang symbol. The five-pointed star signifies the happy prospects of the people.
