The current flag of Jordan was accepted on 16th April, 1928. It consists of three horizontal stripes in the colours of black, white and green with a red triangle on the left hand side. On the triangle is a small, white, seven pointed star.
The stars' seven points are said to symbolise the seven verses at the begining of the Qur'an about the Islamic belief and the seven hills that the capital city of Amman was built on. The black, white and green horizontal colous stand for the Abbasid, Umayyad and Fatimid Caliphates.
