| Notes: |
The current Irish flag was accepted in 1919 during the Independance war by the Irish Republic.
On the flag is a tricolour of green, white and orange. These colours are on three, vertical stripes; green on the far left, white in the middle, and orange on the far right.
The colours used on the flag are symbolic; green symbolising Irish Catholics and the republican cause, white symbolising the hope for peace, and orange symbolising Irish Protestants.
By nationalists, the tricolour is seen as the national flag for the whole of Ireland, even through it is only the national flag of the Republic of Ireland.
