The flag of Iraq was introduced on 14th January, 1991. Iraq's current flag which is based on the flag designed in 1991, has not been officially accepted. In 2004, the flag was introduced. However, it was not used because of the design and colours.

The colours on the flag are layed out in three horizontal stripes and consist of red at the top, white in the middle, black at the bottom and some green stars and symbols on the white. They are said to be symboic to the people of Iraq; red symbosing courage, white symbolising generosity, black symbolising Islam's triumps and green symbolising the Muslim religion.

The green symbols in betwene the two green stars are written in Arabic and say "ALLAHU AKBAR" which means "God is great."
