On 10th November, 1958 the current Guinean flag was approved. The Pan-African colours are included on this flag - green, red and yellow. These are the national colours of Guinea.
These three colours are arranged in three equal vertical stripes. The flag as a whole is a symbol of "the continuity of the human emancipation movement", according to Sékou Touré - president of Guinea from 1958 to 1984.
The left hand-side stripe on the flag is red which represents work and the fight for independence that the Guinean people endured. The middle stripe of the flag is yellow and this represents justice, the wealth of the land and also the sun. The stripe on the right-hand side is green, which symbolises solidarity and the vegetation of Guinea.
