This flag adopted on 18 April, 1980 consists of seven equal horizontal bands coloured green, yellow, red, black, red, yellow and green. The green represents the country's vegetation and agriculture, yellow for the country's mineral wealth, red for the blood shed in the battle for independence and black for the ethnicity of the majority.

A white isosceles triangle representing peace sits at the hoist. The Zimbabwe Bird, the National Emblem of Zimbabwe representing the country's history sits in the middle of the triangle and is superimposed upon a red star standing for internationalism, the nation’s aspirations and reflects the socialist credentials of the ruling party.
