This flag was adopted as the National flag of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (North Vietnam) on November 30, 1955 and became the flag of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam following reunification with South Vietnam on July 2, 1976.

 The flag is red with a yellow five-pointed star in the centre. The red colour represents people’s blood and the revolution. The star symbolises the leadership of the Vietnamese Communist Party with the five points of the star stand for the farmers, workers, intellectuals, youth and soldiers.
