| Notes: |
Commonly called ‘the Stars and Stripes’ or ‘Old Glory’, the American flag consists of 13 equal horizontal stripes of red with white and a blue rectangle in the upper hoist-side corner. This rectangle bears 50 small, white, five-pointed stars which are arranged in nine offset horizontal rows of six stars alternating with rows of five stars.
The 50 stars represent the 50 states and the 13 stripes represent the 13 original colonies. To many U.S. citizens, their flag symbolizes all of the freedoms and rights guaranteed in the U.S. Constitution and its Bill of Rights, while many see it as a symbol of individual and personal liberty like those found in the U.S. Declaration of Independence.
