Adopted on December 2, 1971, this flag is divided into four rectangular parts. The first is red and sits in the area nearest to the mast; its length is equivalent to the height of the flag, while its width is one quarter of the length of the entire flag. Three equal horizontal rectangles make up the remaining area of the flag. The top most rectangle part is green, the middle is white and the lower is black in colour.

The Pan-Arab colours of red, black, white and green originate in the flag of the Arab Revolt.
