This flag was adopted in 1962, the day on which Uganda gained independence from Britian. It's made up of six equal horizontal stripes coloured, (from top to bottom) black, yellow, red, black, yellow and red. In the center of the flag is a white circle containing an image of a crane.

The black colour symbolizes the African people, yellow for the sun and the red, brotherhood and fraternity. The crane is the country's national symbol has been used since British colonial times.
