Olympic flags of the Competing Nations

flag

Country: Tunisia Abbreviation: TUN
Notes:

This flag was originally adopted between 1831 and 1835, making it one of the oldest flags in the world. It consists of a red base with a white circle in the centre.  On top of the circle is a red crescent and a red five pointed star.

Traditionally a colour of Islam, the red colour was adopted by the Ottoman empire who ruled Tunisia from the late 16th century until 1881. The crescent and the star are traditional symbols of Islam and are believed to be lucky.
