Designed by the Independence Committee and selected for use in 1962, this red flag has a black falling diagonal which is outlined in white.

The red colour represents the vitality of the land and its people, courage and friendliness, and the warmth and energy of the sun. The white stands for the surrounding sea, the purity of the nation’s aspirations and the equality of all men.  The black represents the unifying bond of strength and purpose of the people and the natural resources of the land.
