flag

Country: Togo Abbreviation: TOG
Notes:

Adopted on April 27, 1960, this flag has five equal horizontal bands of green (top and bottom) alternating with yellow. In the upper hoist-side corner is a white five pointed star upon a red square.

The red colour symbolizes the blood shed during the fight for Independence and the blood which will be shed to protect the integrity and the sovereignty of the nation. Green stands for hope and new life and for the agriculture basic for development. Yellow stands for the unity of the Togolese people in envisioning a common destiny; it also represents the wealth of the soil. White represents peace, wisdom dignity and light, all hearts unified in acting for independence. The five pointed star is said to be the symbol of life.
