This tricolour flag adopted on June 7, 1991 has horizontal stripes (from top to bottom), white, blue and red. The country’s coat of arms sits in the upper left corner and consists of three yellow stars and the three-peaked Triglay Mountain , the highest mountain in .
The stars symbolise Slovenian independence. The wavy lines at the base of the mountain represent the country’s rivers. The colours blue, white and red are traditional Slavic colours from the time when was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. These colours now stand for Slavic unity and independence and are found in the flags of most Slavic nations.
