The current flag of Rwanda was adopted on October 25, 2001. The new flag replaced the one which Rwanda had used since 1961, just before they gained independence from Belgium in the following year.

On this flag all the colours represent something different for example: blue represents happiness and peace, the yellow represents the countries morals an economic developments, and green stands for the countries natural resources and prosperity. The sun in the flag stands for unity.
