| Notes: |
The flag of Qatar was adopted on 9th July, 1971 just before they gained independence from Britain on 3 September, 1971. The flag consists of two colours maroon and white. The nine-pointed serrated edge was added to the flag in the mid 20th century. To create the modern day national flag, the maroon colour was added to it in 1949.
The white colour represents peace and the maroon colour which used to be red, stands for the Kharijite Muslims in Qatar and the bloodshed of Qatar people in many wars.
