Olympic flags of the Competing Nations

Country: Portugal Abbreviation: POR
Notes:

The portugese national flag is a rectangular flag consisting of two colours (red and green). It also has the national coat of arms located in the centre, and the boundary between the green and the red fields. Portugal officially adopted this design idea on June 30th 1911, replacing the old one used under the constitutional monarchy, after it was chosen by a commision. This commision included Columbano Bordalo Pinheiro, Joao Chagas, and Abel Bothelho, among many others.

The current flag represents a sweeoing change in the evolution of the Portugese flag, which had been always closely associated with the royal arms.
