Panama's flag was made by Maria Ossa de Amador. The flag is celebrated on November 4th, a day after Panama gained independence from Colombia.
In 1903, a flag was proposed to the Panamanian leader; however he turned down this proposal and decided to make a replacement himself. With his families help he created the flag which has been used since that date. It contains a red and a blue quarter, which is said to symbolise the rivalry between the two political parties, (the liberals and the Conservatives). White is used on the flag to represent peace in which the two operated. |
