The Micronesian Flag was created on 10th November, 1979. The blue field represents the Pacific Ocean. The four stars represent the four islands grouped in the federation: Yap, Kosrae, Chuuk and Phonpei.
This flag may have originated from the "flag of the Trust Territory" of the Pacific Islands. With the extra stars representing the Marshall Islands, Palau and Northern Mariana; which dcided not to participate within the federation.
The flag adopted in 1978, was in the colour of the UN flag. The light blue on the flag may also represent the Pacific Ocean. The four islands are arranged like the points of a compass. |
