Used for the first time on January 1st 1901 after the Federation of Australian States joined the Commonwealth of Australia.
With the 'Union Flag' in the top left corner, underneath which is the seven pointed star represent the 6 states and an additional one for it's territories. To the right of both of these is the depiction of the southern cross star constellation which can be seen from anywhere in Australia.
