The Republic of Maldives' flag is coloured red with a vast green rectange in the centre containing a vertical white crescent; with the closed side of the crescent on the hoist side of the flag; which was created on July 25th 1965.

The red rectangle indicating the boldness of the nation's heroes; and their compliance to surrender their lives to defend their country.

The green rectangle in the centre depicts the many coconut trees within the islands. While the white crescent moon represents the islamic faith.
