Country: Liechtenstein Abbreviation: LIE
Notes:

The flag of Liechtenstein was adopted on September 18, 1982. The flag consists of two equally divided colours, the blue over red with a gold Duke crown on the left side corner of the blue band. The flag's colours are derived from the royal household of Liechtenstein in the 18th century. On 5th October, 1921 the equal horizontally divided blue and red was adopted as part of a new constitution.

The crown was added to the flag in 1937, after finding the flag of Haiti identical at the 1936 Olympics. The crown was modified again in 1982.

Joseph Hoop was the Head of goverment when the flag was adopted and he described the meaning of Liechtenstein's flag. The description of the flag was the blue being the colour of a radiant sky, and the red being the colour of embers in the fireplace during their gatherings. The crown represents the united heart and the spirits of the people of Liechtenstein. The national colours of the country are blue and red and the crown represents the bond between people, state and the prince of Liechtenstein.
